GUIDELINES AND INSTRUCTIONS:

How to Properly Apply a Self Tanner or Self Tanning Lotion/Liquid

Most people are aware of how damaging the sun rays can be to skin. Not only is potential skin cancer a concern, but indulging in outdoor tanning can also age the skin way before its time.

That is why using a Self-tanner lotion/liquid is the best way to look great as well as keeping your skin at its healthiest. A major problem however, is in applying self tanner lotion/liquid properly. Quite often if applied wrong, it can lead to streaks, white spots or dark spots in areas such as elbows and knees. If you would like your selftanner to look as natural as if you have been sitting in the sun for hours, here are some basics you need to know.

PREPARATION:

Getting Your Skin Ready :)

We’re sure you’ve heard this one many times before, but we can’t stress enough just how important it is to gently scrub skin before you tan, to lift all those dead skin cells and reveal revitalised, ready-to-tan skin beneath. Applying fake tan to dry, uneven skin will simply leave you patch-tastic and desperate to cover up, not show off those pins.

One of the most important things you need to ensure a nice even application is to apply your self tanning lotion/liquid onto clean, smooth and dry skin. To accomplish this, the first thing you will need to do is shower or bathe before application.

Shower using our tan scrub remover or any other peeling gel and dry off thoroughly. Do not apply moisturizers - it will dilute and diminish the effect of self-tanners. When using our SUPER TAN Lotion/ SUPER BROWN Liquid you need to apply carefully in your ankles, elbows and knees… The SUPER TAN Lotion for instance contains moisturizers perfect for streak-free application even around wrists and ankles.

If you have ever used a self tanner before and have skipped the exfoliation portion, you might have noticed little white dots or streaks have appeared. This is because some of the "tanned" skin has shed off after the fact, showing the white skin underneath. Therefore this is a very important part of the process.

Pay extra special attention to exfoliating rough spots such as elbows, knees, wrists and the ankle area where skin folds exist.

Moisturize Any Area that Has Creases

After taking special care to scrub any body parts that have creases, it is important to moisturize those areas as well. This will help the tanning lotion from getting into those creases and leaving darker lines in them. Be sure to use regular moisturizer on the same places mentioned above; elbows, knees, wrists and ankles.

Wait until your whole body is dry before applying self tanning lotion/liquid!

Be Sure That Your Body and the Room That You are in is Completely Dry!!!

Make sure your body is completely dried before applying the lotion. It is also important that the room that you are in is dry as well. Do not attempt to put the lotion on if the bathroom is still steamy from the shower or if you are sweating due to the heat. This will just end up in an uneven application.

Use Gloves

It is important to use gloves to avoid getting the lotion on the palms of your hands.
Our Tan Applicator Glove gives a superior application if you prefer not to just use your hands. TAN applicator GLOVE  has a silky finish and the inside is sealed to keep the product from penetrating the mitt.

Start Applying

Start with your legs. Rub the tanning lotion in circular motions to ensure that there are no streaks and make sure you get every spot. Use the excess lotion from your legs when doing your feet and ankle area. These spots need less lotion so you want just a very light coating. The same applies for your knees -- apply extremely lightly.
Try not to apply directly to the sides of your feet, your heels or your toes. If you decide you want a little color there, apply with an extremely light touch because lotion will end up looking darker here.

Using a circular motion again blend the self tanner over stomach, chest, and as far around back as you can reach.

If you want to tan your whole body, blend tanner over shoulders and down arms ending at the wrist. Keep arms bent so that self tanner distributes evenly over elbows.

Move onto your torso, chest and neck area. To reach your back you can either ask a friend to help or you can purchase a sponge paintbrush. Make sure the sponge and the handle are both about 3 inches long. That should be long enough to reach your entire back. Use a mirror to make sure you are getting all spots.

Next are your arms, underarms and shoulders. Again, beware of elbow area. Use an extremely light touch (if any at all) if your skin is already darker there.

Finally, the last place to apply is the tops of your hands. Remove your gloves and apply lotion to the tops of your hands and fingers. Then use a wash cloth with soap on it to thoroughly clean your palms so they do not discolor from the tanner.

Be Patient

This is probably the toughest part of self tanning...WAITING. You need to wait at least 20 minutes before putting on any type of clothing. It is vitally important that the lotion is completely dry. Even after the 20 minutes, you probably shouldn't put on anything heavier than an old t-shirt that you wouldn't be bothered about if it got a little stained. You can choose  an old worn T-shirt that you use just for this purpose.

It is best to wait at least a full hour before getting dressed in regular clothes. For convenience sake, using the self tanner an hour before bedtime is probably the best solution, so you do not need to worry about having to get dressed at all.

Use a hairdryer to accelerate the procedure if you are not that patient. :)

Stay Dry: For the best coverage do your best not to get wet for at least 3 hours afterwards. This includes swimming or doing anything that will cause you to sweat.

When to Reapply

Each person is different as well as each lotion. Reapplication can range from every 3 days to 5 days depending on how quickly your skin peels or for competitions, you can use two or three layers (one layer everyday) to get darker color. Only you can decide how often or how dark you would prefer your tan to be.

APPLY TAN TO HAND AND FEET

Apply a small amount of tanner to the glove and blend evenly over hands. Thin skin like hands and feet need less product so a smaller amount will work best here. You can use a bit of rubbing alcohol or moisturizing lotion to wipe off excess product on knuckles after you’ve applied. Just make a fist and then wipe excess off knuckles. After applying self-tan to one hand just switch the mitt to the other hand and then repeat the process. If you have unusually dry skin on elbows or knees just pat a little of your regular body moisturizer there after applying your SUPERTAN Lotion or super brown liquid.

If you don’t use a glove, wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap for a full 1-2 minutes to completely remove all the self-tan from the palms of your hands. Bar soap works best for this. A scrub brush will take off any excess from your palms and assure that nails aren’t stained. Dry hands off thoroughly on a dark towel.

After tanning... Go about your normal activities and let SUPER-TAN Lotion do the work. In 4-6 hours you will develop a healthy, natural-looking tan that can last 5 to 7 days. You can tan before bed if you use darker colored sheets. Or wait 15 minutes after tanning to dress. DanceCos self tanner washes out of most fabrics but we always suggest wearing dark colors.

ADVICE:

Applying self tanning lotions take practice, but if you follow these instructions and add a little patience, applying a self tanning lotion/liquid will be easier and your sunless tan will be streak-free.

GUIDELINES AND INSTRUCTIONS:

How to Properly Apply the TAN FLUID MAKE UP

1-      Cleanse and moisturize your face.

Makeup should always be applied to a clean canvas. Wash your face using your normal cleanser and pat dry. If you have dry skin, apply a moisturizer and wait a few minutes before applying foundation to give the moisturizer a chance to work.

If you are in a hurry or have applied too much moisturizer, blot your face with a tissue to remove excess moisturizer before applying foundation.

2-      Pour a small amount of foundation to the back of your hand.

Don't pour out too much. You can always add more later.

3-       Dip your fingertips into the foundation, and begin to dab it onto your face eventually.

Start with two dabs on your forehead, two on each cheek, one on your nose, and one on your chin. A little goes a long way with liquid foundation, and you can always add more to areas that need additional coverage.

4-      Use your fingertips to blend the foundation into your skin.

Make small, light circles with your fingertips. Begin with the areas that tend to have the most uneven skin tone (nose, cheeks, and forehead for most people) and work out from there.

Think about blending the foundation smoothly and lightly, not rubbing it in, and definitely not "slathering" it on.

If you need more coverage, add more foundation to your face a dab at a time.

5-      Blend the edges.

Blend your foundation carefully into your jawline, hairline, and around your ears to avoid leaving distinct lines. If you have a sponge, use it to blend the foundation at your jawline using short downward strokes. If you notice a distinct color change at the jawline, you may need a different shade of foundation.

6-      Set your foundation.

Wait 2-3 minutes for foundation to dry. If it is still noticeably moist, blot your face gently with a tissue. Apply other makeup, and then set your foundation with a translucent finishing powder.

Apply the powder gently with a puff or a brush, and your makeup will last all day!

Some dancers use this TAN FLUID also to the body too :-)
